גן הסלעים הינו אטרקציה הממוקמת בעיר צ'אנדיגר שבצפון-מערב הודו. הגן נוצר ע"י נק צ'אנד.

The rock garden is an attraction that is located on the North-west side of India in a city called Chandigarh. Nek Chand established the garden.

העיר צ'אנדיגאר תוכננה בשנות ה-50 ונבנתה ע"י מספר אדריכלים ובעקבות כך המראה והאופי שלה שונה מערים אחרות ברחבי הודו. העיר הזו עושה לכם מעין הפסקה קטנה מהודו. היא יותר מסודרת, קצת יותר נקייה, פחות צפופה ומחולקת לסקטורים שהן מעין שכונות.

Chandigarh is a city that was planned in the '50s and was built by several architects. Because of this, the look and character of it are different from other cities around India. The city of Chandigarh gives you a break from India. IT is more organized, a bit cleaner, less crowded and divided into sectors which they are sort of neighborhoods.

ניתן למצוא בצ'נדיגאר הרבה פארקים ומתחמי קניות, ביניהם את הקניון השני בגודלו בצפון הודו – אלאנטה המכיל מותגים רבים, סופר ענק ומשחקיות מטריפות לילדים. כמעט בכל קניון או כניסה לבית קולנוע, מתבצע בידוק בטחוני.

מרכז העיר, שבעיניים מערביות נראה די מיושן, מכיל חנויות רבות המתעוררות לחיים בעיקר בשעות אחר הצהריים. את עיקר הצפיפות, המאפיינת את הודו, הרגשנו בכבישי העיר. על אף שיש בה אזורים רבים מוסדרים עם רמזורים וכיכרות, עדיין כמו באזורים אחרים בהודו, גם בעיר זו כלי הרכב מקבלים קדימות על פני הולכי הרגל.

You can find in Chandigarh lots of parks, and shopping centers, among them, is the second largest mall in Northern India – Elante, which occupies many brands, large supermarket and amazing arcade games for kids. Almost at every mall or cinema in India, you will need to go through a security check.

The center of the city that in Western's eyes may seem dated contains many stores that come to life, especially in the afternoons. The congestion in Chandigarh, which is known around all of India, was especially felt on the city's roads. Even though there are many places with traffic lights and roundabouts, still like in the rest of the country, vehicles are given precedence over a pedestrian.

 

על אף היותה עיר יותר מודרנית ומתוכננת, התחבורה במקומות רבים ובשעות לחץ מתנהלת בצורה כמעט "כאוטית" עם חוקים משלה. בכל רגע נראה שעומדת להתרחש תאונה (ואף היינו עדים לאחת). נסיעה בריקשה (רכב קטן עם שלושה גלגלים) הופכת לחוויה קצת מלחיצה. כמו כן, חציית כביש באזור עם מעבר חצייה (ללא רמזורים), היא אחד הדברים המאתגרים שם.

מכיוון שמדובר בעיר יחסית מפותחת, ביקור בצ'אנדיגר לא יניב לכם את החוויה האותנטית שאולי חיפשתם בביקור בהודו. עם זאת, ממש לא כדאי לכם להפסיד כמה מקומות מקסימים שההיילייט ביניהם הוא פארק הסלעים!

Even though it is more of a modern city, the traffic in many places an, especially on rush hours, is running in a "chaotic" manner with rules of its own. It seems like every minute an accident might happen (and we even witnessed one). Traveling with a rickshaw (three wheel car) becomes a stressful experience. Moreover, crossing a road with a sidewalk, but no traffic lights are one of the challenging things there.

Because it is such a developed city, a visit to Chandigarh might not give you the authentic experience you were looking for when visiting India. However, you should not miss out on some lovely places where the highlight in them is the rock park!  

בסקטור 1 תמצאו את גן הסלעים שהינו מקום פתוח ולא מקורה, שיעביר אתכם בכמה חלקים שבהם תפגשו מגוון פסלים העשויים מחומרים שונים כדוגמת חפצים שבדרך כלל מושלכים לפח כמו גומיות, תקעי חשמל ישנים, שברי מתכת, שברי חרסינה ואפילו אסלות. הכניסה לגן עלתה לנו בסביבות ה 30 רופי (כ-1.5 ש"ח!).  

פרט לפסלים המעניינים ברחבי הגן תוכלו להתרשם גם מעצים עם גזעים בצורות מעניינות, אגם קטן ומפלים. תעברו מעל גשרי אבן המקשרים בין חלקי הגן וכמובן שניתן לעשות פיקניק באזור. בנוסף יש אזור עם נדנדות ומתקני שעשועים שישמח את הילדים ואת המבוגרים שעוד נותרו ילדים בליבם. הנדנדות ממוקמות מעל מדרגות כך כשאתם מתנדנדים תרגישו כאילו אתם "מרחפים" לרגעים ספורים מעליהן. 

On Sector one, you will find the rock garden which is an open space, that will walk you through several parts with a variety of statues made of different materials, such as stuff that you can find in the trash for example rubber bands, old electrical plugs, metal fragments, china fragments, and even toilets. The entrance to the park cost us around 30 rupees (around 0.42$).

Besides the exciting figures, throughout the garden, you can find impressive trees with fascinating stems, a small lake, and waterfalls. You will pass through stone bridges that connect between the different parts of the garden and of course you can have a picnic in the area. In addition, there are swings and playground facilities that will be a joy for kids and adults who remained children in their hearts.
The swings are located above stairs, so you can swing and feel like you're floating for a couple of seconds.

ההליכה בין חלקי הפארק דורשת מעבר תחת קשתות נמוכות, הדורשות להתכופף (לפעמים הרבה, גם לנמוכים) כדי לעבור בין הפתחים השונים וכן לטפס במדרגות. מי שסובלים ממגבלות פיזיות, יתקשו לטייל בין חלקי הגן השונים ובנוסף, המעבר של הפתחים כל כך צר שאפילו עגלת נכים לא תצליח לעבור. כבר בכניסה תוכלו להתרשם מאיך שהפארק הולךך להיותף מכיוון שהקופות בנויות בצורה כזאת שיש צורך להתכופף כדי לדבר ולשלם לקפואי.

זמן השהייה בגן הוא כשעה-שעה וחצי, אך כמובן שתוכלו לבלות שם הרבה יותר, בעיקר אם תחליטו להצטלם בכל מיני עמדות מעניינות ופוטוגניות של הגן וכמובן אם תחליטו לעצור לפיקניק או להשתעשע בנדנדות.

When walking through the different parts of the park, you will need to go under low arches, which require bending (sometimes a lot, even for short people), in order to pass through the different portals and also climb stairs. Those who suffer a disability might find it difficult to move between the different parts of the garden and also, sometimes those portals are so narrow that even a wheelchair won't be able to go through it. Right at the entrance, you can get the impression of what is waiting for you inside since the cashiers are built in a way that you must bend to pay and talk with the cashier.

Visiting the park might take you between 1:00-1:30 hours, but of course you can stay longer, especially if you want to take photos on every corner and stop for a picnic or play in the swings.

אנחנו ביקרנו במקום בחודשים יולי-אוגוסט, הידועים כחודשי המונסון. בחודשים אלה חם, מאוד חם, כל כך חם שגם אם לא זזים ופשוט עומדים בלי לעשות כלום בחוץ, אי אפשר שלא להזיע ולנטוף מזיעה, אבל מצד שני בכל רגע עלול להתחיל גשם. לכן יש להגיע מצויידים עם מטריה, כי מזג  האוויר טרופי. תכינו איתכם מטריה וקרם הגנה, שתהיו מוגנים מהגשם ומהשמש היוקדת, שכן יש אזורים בגן שאינם מוצלים. וכמובן לא לשכוח משהו לנגב את הזעה הנוראית ובקבוק מים, על אף שיש שם קיוסק שניתן לקנות שתייה (במחיר קצת יותר יקר מאשר המחירים מחוץ לפארק, אך עדיין זול).

We visited India between July-August, which is known as the monsoon season. Those months are so warm, that even if you don't move at all and just stand in the outside, you start to sweat, but on the other hand every second can rain. So come equipped when visiting the garden, because it is tropical weather. Get an umbrella and sunscreen, so you'll be protected from the rain and burning sun since there are places in the garden with no shade. And of course don't forget to take something to wipe that sweat and a bottle of water, although there's a kiosk inside that, you can buy drinks (a bit pricier than usual, but still cheap).
