The Mayor of Vilnius, Lithuania's capital, promises to host an open-air discotheque if Lithuania wins the Eurovision song contest in 2021.
Vilnius aims to celebrate with the visitors and residents by drawing inspiration from this year's Lithuania representatives: The Roop, with their song "Discoteque."

The mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Simasius, shared on Facebook: "I have no doubts that The Roop has every chance to win the Eurovision this year. If they do, Vilnius will be transformed into one giant open-air dance floor so the citizens and the visitors may, to quote The Roop, discotheque right at their home. Of course, we will also adhere o all safety requirements applicable at the moment. After all, The Roop's song has helped many of us to forget the gloomy reality even for a moment and to shake off the pandemic fatigue in disco rhythm. So let's support our Lithuanian entry".
The Roop was selected last year with another song to represent Lithuania. However, due to the coronavirus, they had to submit a different song in an alternative virtual Eurovision show organized by the German broadcaster NDR, which they won.
The song "Discoteque" combines several genres: disco, funk, house while suggesting allusions to the current reality of lockdown and social distancing.

Vaidotas Valiukevicius, The Roop leader, said: "Vilnius is my home and its street - my dance floor. Feeling overjoyed by the idea of our song bringing everyone together in one way or another, I cannot wait for Vilnius to embody the atmosphere of "Discoteque" and let its true magic shine bright and loud."
The open-air discotheque concept would contribute to making the public areas of the city into shared spaces. A similar project organized last year due to the pandemic was a city-wide outdoor cafe that beckoned to stay together while keeping a safe distance.
