Movie review: Selma

בס"ד

selma poster fair use movie review

The year is 1965. The Afro-American citizens can vote, meaning they have the right to vote, but every small and picky way is used to deprive them of their rights.

Selma, Alabama was the place that started the change in the voting right, thanks to Martin Luther king.

Some parts in the movie are not easy to watch, primarily when it's based on real events.

At first, the movie seems to start slow, but it's not. I don't like writing spoilers, but if you want to see what happens right at the start, then click here.

Toward the end of the film, there's real footage from the actual events.

The footage is fascinating and sad, and all I can say is - STOP!!! with the racism.

Something that bothered me about the editing of the film was the scenes where Martin Luther King had his speech, and meanwhile, there is fascinating info about what happened to the people who helped him, and it's quite hard to listen to the speech and read the info on the screen.

Martin Luther King had a dream, a big vision for those days, but he achieved it, and so can you.
