מערות לוזית והתאומים - Luzit and Twins caves

לפני כמה זמן, יצאנו לטיול באזור בית שמש.

חיפשנו באינטרנט ומצאנו את שני המקומות המקסימים האלה.
התחלנו את הטיול במערות לוזית - סדרת מערות בצורת פעמון שנחצבו על ידי בני אדם.
המרחק בין החנייה לכניסה למערות הוא ממש מועט.
מערות לוזית מאוד מרשימות, ניתן למצוא בהן תאים שכנראה שימשו לגידול יונים ואם תהיו קשובים, תוכלו למצוא מקום שבו יש להקת עטלפים על התקרה.
בתמונה הימנית קשה מעט לראות, אך הנקודות השחורות מצד ימין באמצע זה עטלפים ובתמונה השמאלית זה התאים ששימשו לגידול היונים.

A while ago, we went on a trip to Beit Shemesh, Israel.

We've searched on the net and found these lovely places.

We strated with Luzit caves -  a series of caves, shaped like bells, that were quarried by man.

The distance from the parking lot to the caves is really small.

The Luzit caves are really impressive , and you can see holes in the wall, that probably been used for raising doves.
If you will listen closely, you will find a group of bats on the ceiling.
On the right image, it's hard to see, but there's a group of bats near the hole, and on the left image, you can see the holes where they raised the pigeons.

 

ניתן לבקר במקום רגלית או לעשות סנפלינג.
ביקור במערות לוזית מתאים גם למי שמתקשה בהליכה, פשוט היזהרו בצעדיכם או הגיעו עם אנשים שיכולים לעזור לכם, אך לא מתאים לאנשים עם כסאות גלגלים.
אין מדובר פה במערה מסודרת של הקק"ל או משהו בסגנון, וכן הכניסה ללא תשלום.

You can travel by foot or by rappelling.

A visit to Luzit caves, is suitable even for people who have trouble walking, just be careful with you steps or make sure to walk with someone who can assist you, but not suitable for people with wheelchair. 

This cave is not under JNF, and there is no entrance fee. 

לאחר מערות לוזית, רצינו לבקר במערת הנטיפים, אולם מכיוון שהם שינו  את השעות שלהם בעקבות המעבר לשעון חורף,
ועכשיו הם סוגרים ב-16:00, אז אפילו אם תגיעו ב-15:05 כמו שאנחנו הגענו, לא יתנו לכם להיכנס, כי הסיור האחרון יוצא ב-15:00.
אז חשבנו מה לעשות, ובסוף מצאנו באינטרנט את מערת התאומים שאינה עולה כסף לעומת מערת הנטיפים..

Afterwards, we wanted to visit stalactite cave, but we were late, and therefore we had to find another point of interest.

At last, we found the twins cave, that has no entrance fee (unlike the stalactite cave).

 

המערה שימשה כמקום מפלט בתקופת מרד בר כוכבא, ונמצאו בה מטבעות כסף וזהב (ביניהם מטבעות בר כוכבא) מאותה תקופה, כלי נשק ושרידי עצמות.
ישנם כמה דרכים להגיע למערת התאומים, ישנה דרך שיכולה לקחת מספר שעות טובות וישנה דרך שהיא יחסית קצרה ומגיעה ישירות למערה.

The cave was used as a refuge during the Bar Kochba revolt.

Silver and gold coins from that era were found in the cave (Bar Kochba coins among them), with weapons and skeletal remains.

There are couple of ways to get to the twins cave, there's the long term course and there's a short term, that leads you very quickly to the cave.

מפאת קוצר זמן וסיבות נוספות, החלטנו ללכת על המסלול הקצר.
המסלול לא ארוך מדי, לוקח בערך כחצי שעה כל כיוון, והוא אינו מתאים לנכים.
תחילת השביל קלה להליכה, אולם המשכו לא הכי קל -יש צורך בטיפוס על אבנים.
כשמגיעים למערה, מטפסים על מדרגות אבן ומגיעים לפתח המערה.

Because we didn't have much time and for other reasons, we took the short term option.

The trail isn't that long, about half an hour for each side, and is not suitable for handicaps.

The start of the trail is easy to walk, but as you continue - there's the need of climbing on rocks.

When you get to the cave, you climb on stone steps and reach the entrance of the cave.

 

המערה מאוד חשוכה, רוב הזמן תוכלו לראות את הפתח של המערה, אך ישנו שלב שיהיה חושך מוחלט ולכן חשוב להצטייד בפנסים.
במערה ישנה להקת עטלפים מאוד מאוד גדולה וחשוב לא להפריע להן, עטלף יכול להעביר כלבת אז יש להיזהר.
שביל המערה עובר על גשר עץ לח וחלקלק, אז היזהרו בצעדיכם.
בסוף המערה, תמצאו בריכה קטנה שנוצרה על ידי בני אדם ואם תסתכלו על התקרה לקראת סוף המסלול, תוכלו לראות נטיפים מאוד יפים.

The cave is mostly dark, but you would be able to see the entrance of the cave most of the time.

There's a stage where there will be total darkness, so don't forget to take a flashlight.

There is a large pack of bats in the cave and it is important not to disturb them - a bat can infect in rabies.

The path of the cave goes through a slippery and moist bridge, so watch your steps.

At the end of the cave, you'll fine a tiny pool, that was quarried by man, and if you will look on the ceiling, you'll see beautiful stalactites.

המערה לא מתאימה למי שאינו אוהב חושך, טוב אם יורשה לי לומר, אני לא אוהבת חושך אבל ברוך השם הסתדרתי, פשוט מיהרתי להיכנס ומיהרתי לצאת חחחחח.
המערה סגורה בין ה-1 לנובמבר ועד ה-31 למרץ, על מנת לא להפריע לשנת החורף של העטלפים.
נכון שארץ ישראל שלנו יפה?!

I don't like dark places much, and this cave is not suitable for people who are afraid of the dark, but I managed by getting in and out real quick.

The cave is closed from November 1st to March 31th , in order not to disturb the bats hibernation.
