We started walking, and it was gorgeous and hot hot hot...
We arrived at the canyon with its reddish sand walls, which had more shade and a variety of challenging parts with ladders and iron bars.
Since we took the shortest path, after exiting the canyon, we turned right and started climbing up the hill. There we had more parts that you should/ought to use the iron pegs to keep climb.
I'm not much of a heights lover. There are heights I can handle and some that I don't even want to try. Therefore, I found some parts that were a bit scary to me, but it was still an enjoyable and fun experience that I would not give up on.
Overall the shortest trail took us between an hour to an hour and 15 minutes with a few stops. You can't remain indifferent to the beauty of the place, and Israel's land is so beautiful and wonderful.
A few things you should know:
* The trail is not accessible for handicaps.
*It is essential bringing: water, hats, sunscreen, and if I'm not mistaken, there are parts without a signal, so please notify someone from your family before going on this trip.
*Our land is beautiful, so keep it that way by bringing a garbage bag with you and take your trash with you.
*The short trail lasts around an hour to an hour and 15 minutes, and the long path lasts between two to three hours.
*Check the weather before you go, especially in the winter months, since I think there are parts prone to flooding there.
*To get there: search in Google Maps or Waze "Red canyon."
We went on a short, lovely, and a bit challenging walk in the Edom Mountains, Eilat.
When you visit Eilat, you don't necessarily need to visit the city of Eilat itself. And especially now in the corona era when we search open places to keep social distancing, a great hike in the Edom mountains is a great idea.
So, as I said, we hiked in the red canyon trail in the Edom mountains. It was a short trail, but a challenging one (especially for me, since I'm not fond of heights much and a few other things).
The red canyon is about 20 km north to Eilat. It's about 200 meters long and 30 meters in depth.
We arrived in a family car and parked in a dirt parking lot. Nearby there was a stand with trails map.
Most of the trail is under the beating sun, so it's important to get equipped with hats, sunscreen, and water.
