I bought these tiny hotdogs, and I just knew I will use them as a filling.
I wanted a quick dough that doesn't need a stand mixer and won't need proofing time, so I decided to make an easy three ingredients dough without yeast and no rising time.
I made the dough using flour, baking powder, and water, and what gives this dough its flavor is, of course, sausages that reveal on each bite and the honey and chili sauce.
There is a limit on how much you can fill the dough with sauce, so I recommend serving the sauce alongside these cute snacks so you can dip as much as you want.
You might call these pigs in a blanket. However, it only looks like it. Regular pigs in a blanket are sausages wrapped with croissant/puff pastry dough, but this dough is plain simple.
Bite-size buns filled with mini sausages, honey and chili/recipe: Con Delight
The measurements were made using universal cups and spoons
Ingredients for 8 pieces:
1 cup of white four, sifted*
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons of water
A bit of oil, to grease the dough
Egg with a bit of water, to brush the pastries
Filling:
Mini hotdogs
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon crushed organic chili
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 180C/356F.
Mix the flour with a 1/4 cup of water. If the dough is dry, add 1 tablespoon. Mix and, if needed, add the second tablespoon of water. Knead for two minutes by hand and set aside covered for 5 minutes to rest.
Meanwhile, mix the chili and honey in a bowl and set aside.
Work with oiled hands and smooth the dough. Divide into 8 pieces, and each piece roll into a smooth ball.
Roll each ball into a circle using your hands or a roller. Spread a bit of homey chili sauce inside each circle and place a hotdog inside. Fold into a small finger bun and brush each bun with the water-egg mixture.
Bake for 15-20 minutes. Serve immediate;y.
If you're missing sauce, just serve alongside the buns alongside the sauce leftovers.
*You can use self-rising flour and omit the baking powder.
