Last week, I reviewed the Hono Sushi&Wok restaurant, a kosher Asian concept restaurant that offers a vast menu, from luxurious sushi rolls to salads, woks, etc.
Hono (Flame in Japanese) restaurant is located in Givat Shmuel, next to Bar Ilan University. The restaurant provides services to the cities nearby: Petah Tikva, Yehud, Or Yehuda, Kiryat Ono, Ganei Tikva and, of course, Givat Shmuel. But, it is also well respected among culinary lovers, and according to the owners, people come for TakeAways from distant cities.
We visited the restaurant in a busy afternoon and decided to take a few dishes for a takeaway. There are black-red leather sofas for those wishing to eat on the spot. And when it starts to darken, the place gets a bit of a romantic vibe due to the chain of warm and inviting lighting bulbs.
The Hono menu includes a variety of fish, meat, and vegetarian dishes from the East, suitable for the Israeli palate. For example, you can find different sushi types such as Black & White, Burla roll, Vulcano, Purple Beat, etc.; Firsts such as Eggroll, Vegetarian Dim Sum, etc.; Salads such as Tuna Tataki, poke salad, chicken salad, etc.; A variety of stir-fries and mains such as Purple Wok, Classic Noodles, Salmon bun, chicken in Curry, etc.; Sushi trays for parties and gatherings and desserts such as sushi toffee banana, toffee crunch, and cremino.
We tried three fish dishes, all served with our favorite fish - salmon: Hono Crazy salmon sushi, Hono salmon bun, and Purple Wok.
Hono Crazy salmon sushi (53 NIS) contains raw salmon, avocado, and sweet potato wrapped in teriyaki roasted salmon, spicy mayonnaise, crispy sweet potato, tempura, sesame, and chopped chives. The first thing you think when seeing this sushi roll is WOW. Visually it looks incredible, and after tasting it, there are simply no words. But I'll talk anyway :-)
It is such a delight. I tasted sushi many times, and I can definitely say it is among the best sushi I've tried. All the flavors combine into one perfect bite that ends too quickly. Highly recommended!
Then we tried the salmon bun (54 NIS) - the dish comes with two buns. The buns contain crispy schnitzel-like salmon fried in tempura. The dish was very nice. The bun was soft and good, and the salmon was crispy and wonderful. The order came with sauces on the side, and after dipping the bun once of the sauces, I think the dish elevated and was excellent.
Finally, we tried the Purple Wok - After ordering this dish, the person at the desk said I knew what to pick, so she made me even more eager to try it already.
The Purple Wok (65 NIS) is a dish containing beetroot noodles, salmon in teriyaki, and various vegetables in a garlic soy sauce. The expectations from this dish didn't fail. All the parts in this dish are just fantastic, and I highly recommend this delicious dish.
The veteran restaurateur Ronen Mordechay is the owner of Hono sushi & wok. He ran kitchens in various concepts around Israel, and about a year ago, he decided to open the Asian kitchen in a kosher version. The place became a success among the religious and non-religious public.
Bottom line: Awesome spot for sushi and Asian-food lovers. I highly recommend it!
